Elena FRIKHA began the violin when 5 years old at the GNESSINE School for child prodigies in Moscow.
She has diplomas from the Gnessine High Academy where she studied with violinist K. AKTIAMOVA (D. OISTRAK student) and V. BERLINSKI (founding cellist of the BORODINE Quartet) for chamber music. She also followed a "third cycle of perfection" in chamber music at the Paris Conservatory with A. MEUNIER.
In 1987 she was a founding member of the Anton Quartet winning the the following International String Quartet Competitions :
- First Prize in the USSR State Competition 1987
- Second Prize at the "Prague Springtime" 1988
- Grand prix and the International Press Jury Prize at the "Evian International String Quartet Competition" 1989
- Grand prix at the "St.Petersburg International String Quartet Competition" 1993
With the Anton Quartet she played concerts in the most prestigious concert halls in Europe and all over the world.
In 1999 Elena FRIKHA became principal 1st violin with the "Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy".
In March 2001 she gave the french first performance of the Chaconne for violin and orchestra from the film music of " The Red Violin " by the american composer John Corigliano.
In 2006 she was named professor of violin at the "Conservatoire National de Région de Nancy".
Elena FRIKHA is a lauréate of the Yehudi MENUHIN Foundation. She plays a violin made by Frank RAVATIN.
